I don't think we have anyone else who puffs pipes too...but here are a couple pictures of my two newest pipes Believe it or not, this is a heavily customized corncob pipe. intricate hand carved Meerschaum.

The guy who carved the basket weave if simply the best. He carves out the backsides of the weaves & braids. I have never seen that from any other carver on a basket weave styles. They just carve the face of the design just to get it done.

Being I have a little spare time, I had to find a new hobby. I'm not so sure this one will work out but it's fun. I DO NOT need another pipe so this may go t my nephew...or maybe the next one. If you wonder WHY a pipe??? A tin of tobacco costs as much as one or two cigars but lasts 10X's + as long.I bought a few pre-drilled briar blocks for giggles. Then took it to a sanding disc with 60 grit Before I realized I'm supposed to STAIN/DYE it after I get to the 600 grit stage, I went all the way to 12,000 grit. It shines really nice but the grain does not pop. I gotta sand it back down, apply dye, then sand again to 12,000 grit before polishing.

That Meerschaum is amazingly detailed.
And for the make your own, I'm intrigued. How is the tenon attached to the mortise in the briar or corn cob? Press fit? Is the bowl of the corn cob lined? Does the corn cob burn out quickly without a liner?

The Tenons on the Briars are cut & shaped on the stems...push & twist into the shanks. On the custom cob, that one is a little different than most, it has the bone extension and has a sort of delrin attachment fastened to the stem...twist & push. The cobs are not coated or lined with anything, just plain 'ol cob. The Bottom has a briar plug replacing the soft cob center crap. Some cobs come from the factory with a hard wood plug for that reason..other cheaper models don't. The trick to help prevent burnout on the cobs is to smoke them slow until they start to form a cake.
That Meer is my favorite pipe with the custom cob pulling a close second The Meer is one heavy S.O.B. too.

I'm surprised how well the depth came out in those pics - normally a difficult thing to capture.
