Ok first off I iknow NOBODY will believe that a young good lookin thing like me could possibly be a grand father but yep, I am..... I have 5 grand kids all young and very special, my son and his family just left after a visit and Mara (4yrs) calls me Pam Paw, which I love!!! but I convinced her that her grandmother had hairy bent monkey toes and Mara changed her name for my wife from Nanna to Nanna Bananna cause monkeys eat banannas.... Once whe started that was it, and now it is her name... I am a stinker.... Jim Hoiw many grand kids you got and any special names for you?

Congrats on the grandkids!
I don't even have kids, never mind grandkids, but the whole special name thing had me thinking. I grew up in Idaho and my grandma was always just grandma and grandpa was grandpa, same with all my friends and their grandparents. Once I moved to the south it was a whole different story. My niece calls her maternal grandmother "Ama" (ah-ma) and she and her brothers refer to Jonathan's dad, their paternal grandfather, as "PopPop", which we all tend to call him now. Some of Jonathan's cousins call his maternal grandmother "Me Maw" and his other grandmother is always referred to as "granny". Either the special names didn't happen in the Northwest when I was a kid or we were just all boring and unimaginative.

If I were still married to my first wife...God forbid...I would have three, make that four, grand kids. It's the only regret I have from that marriage. They don't know me, most likely never will. I still have hope, if I live long enough, my son G-man is 23 and VERY involved with a sweet young lady. I think he will purpose to her in the next year or so. If my son and his girl have children, I just hope they don't call me a$$hole My sister has three kids. They called my mom, mama and my dad, grump. I dunno why, but they always did. My brothers as one daughter and she called my mom, nana and my dad, pop-pop. Where do they come up with this stuff?!

someone just has to start the ball rolling.....we all had 'special' names for the elderly folks.
we have one grandson...he calls Mike, PaPa and usually calls me "come-on gramma O...you're slow.." he's abit of a male chauvinist...a product of where he lives. High Jack on: No, he just knows where women belong. High jack off:

Either the special names didn't happen in the Northwest when I was a kid or we were just all boring and unimaginative. I know Ama came from our niece not being able to pronounce grandma, and Ama just stuck. Sister in law goes by "Becca" which was 2-year-olded to "Baba," which stuck. PopPop came from my brothers and me calling our father "Pop" occasionally. It then followed that my brother was Pop to his kids, and grandpa was Pop's Pop... I don't know where "Me Maw" came from, and still don't refer to grandma by that term.

I don't know where "Me Maw" came from, and still don't refer to grandma by that term. Memaw came from the super southern Aunt's kids.. specifically the oldest. You know the ones.
